New to SSL Certificates?

Here you can find all the information to help you understand the difference between certificates, choose the right SSL solution for your site, find out how much it costs, order and buy a certificate.

We all need security on the Internet. Ever since the Internet came along, there have always been cyber threats and cyber criminals trying to do harm. The Internet is evolving, and with it are growing threats. Today’s cybercrime is particularly sophisticated, but as always, hackers exploit every vulnerability available to them.

The key to cybersecurity is to always be one step ahead. Protecting your site from potential threats now requires a comprehensive and all-encompassing security solution, and no component of that security solution is more important than SSL / TLS. The cost of entry-level certificates is very low – it opens everyone access to security. The price paid for the certificate will save you and your clients a lot more money and nerves.

The most popular, according to our customers’ reviews and the most affordable, are certificates of the Comodo brand.
Solutions from DigiCert are considered the benchmark for security.
For reports of financial companies we recommend to buy certificates for FATCA, with their help companies are identified.

What is SSL / TLS?

Let’s start with the basics. An SSL/TLS certificate performs two basic functions. It encrypts connections between clients (the website user’s browser) and the web server (the server that hosts the website) via SSL/TLS. It also verifies the authenticity of the company or organization for which the certificate is issued.

What is data encryption?

When the client browser and web server exchange data, this information is usually in the public domain and can be intercepted and altered by a third party. Naturally, we wouldn’t want that. Especially when it comes to private data, bank card numbers, passwords and other user information that we would prefer to protect. SSL / TLS certificate allows to encrypt the connection, in which all data transmitted between the client and the server is encrypted so that only an authorized party can read it. It protects personal data and confidential information shared by both parties.

In the distant past, Caesar encrypted his messages to protect them. That is why the enemies could not read Caesar’s intercepted messages. Modern encryption methods are much more complex than the Caesar cipher, which guarantees their resistance to tampering.

What is authentication?

So, now you know that the SSL/TLS certificate allows you to encrypt the connection between the client and the web server, but what does it mean? How to create a secure connection? It all starts with an interaction known as the SSL Handshake, which encrypts the connection for milliseconds and protects all communication between your site and its visitors.

How does an SSL certificate work?

When the client and the web server exchange data, this information is usually in the public domain and can be intercepted and altered by a third party. For obvious reasons, this is not ideal. The SSL / TLS certificate allows encryption of a connection in which all communication between the client and the server is encoded in such a way that only the authorized party can read it. It protects personal data and confidential information shared by both parties.

How does the process of issuing an SSL certificate work?

It takes a few steps to get an SSL certificate. We start by creating a CSR request and a secret key, then you have to pay for the order, then you need to go through the validation process, get a certificate and additional files (root and intermediate certificates) from the certificate authority, then install the SSL certificate on your server and configure the server to work over HTTPS.

A CSR request is an encrypted text file containing a request to issue a certificate, on the basis of which the certificate authority will issue the certificate. When you create a CSR request, you also generate a secret key, without which you cannot use a CCL certificate. For your convenience, we have integrated the creation of a CSR request into the certificate order. When you fill in the details of the certificate order, you automatically create a request and a key, which are stored in the order.

Verification or validation is primarily a confirmation of the right to manage the domain for which you need to order a certificate. The easiest way to validate a domain is to send an email with a confirmation link. For certificates with domain validation (DV) this is the end of the check, the certificate authority issues the certificate and sends it to the customer’s e-mail. For certificates with Organization Validation (OV) and Extended Validation (EV), documents of the company wishing to obtain the certificate must be provided in addition. After successful validation of the documents and a verification call from the CA, a certificate is issued and can be installed on your server.

You can learn more about the validation process by clicking the “Explore Process” button.
