PuTTY is one of the most popular SSH programs. Its popularity is due to its small size, free and open source.
To get started, download PuTTY from the official website https://www.putty.org/

Also note that the default setting is port 22, but sometimes hosts use a non-standard port for SSH connections. In this case, specify the settings with your hoster.
- In the window that appears, enter your login, if it is a virtual machine or a dedicated server, usually root. And if virtual hosting – the login is usually the same as the login to the control panel hosting.
- After entering your login, you will be prompted to enter your password. Note that the entered password does not appear on the screen at all, not even in asterisks, this is normal. After you have entered the password completely, press Enter.
You can save connection sessions so that you don’t have to re-enter the host and port later. To do this after a successful connection – right-click on the window header, select Change settings and in the Session section enter the name of the session to save and click save.
As a result, you will have a saved session that you can double-click on in the future for a quick connection.
